I will visit Iran for one month in 2016 (avoiding Ramadan and the summer heat). If you have any advice in planning this trip I'd appreciate it! Please see the Planning page to learn more about my interests. Thanks!
A little more about me:
Travel slowly to meet more people. Eat lots of delicious food. Discover interesting places.
Notice the differences in cultures.
It's so exciting to learn how other people live in environments that are nothing like the one I come from.
For fun: hiking, rock climbing, eating lots of different foods.
Activities I've tried and enjoyed: SCUBA, paragliding.
Past travels
include 30 countries visited, 5 of them lived in.
Favorites: Mongolia, Poland, Cambodia.2014 a month in Mongolia. http://mongoliavisit.weebly.com/ I also spent 2 weeks in Guatemala & Honduras.
In 2013 I did a 5-week Europe trip to CH, DE, Poland, Austria, Slovenia (with a few days in Italy to visit friends of my couchsurfing host), and Croatia.
In 2012 I went to Australia and New Zealand for a month in May and then 6 weeks in Nov/Dec.
In 2010 (6 weeks) & 2011 (4 weeks) I went to Haiti to do some earthquake relief volunteer work in Bellevue (near Leogane).

Details
As an American, I am required to have a guide and itinerary arranged before I can apply for a 30-day visa. I have a recommended guide, so am waiting to confirm plans. At the moment, the cost is quite high, so I either need to negotiate or find a different guide. (I would much rather have a university student who wants to learn English for a month, serve as my guide. Then it would be an exchange of language and ideas, which I enjoy!)
I have never been on a full tour before. I have traveled on short tours during certain parts of some trips. For example, in Kenya I went on a guided safari tour. And, in Mongolia I had a guide when I went on an 8-day horse trek, and again on a 3-day homestay & horse trek.
Places I have been told I should visit include Yazd, Shiraz, Isfahan. I prefer quiet places in cities, small towns or villages, as I like quiet and calm. I now live and work in a big, loud American city, but grew up in a quiet town. Please let me know your recommendations!
I am especially interested in knowing what foods I should eat! I love to eat, and will happily try almost any foods. I do not like liver, blood, or goat testicles. I like most other foods-- especially pastries with fruit or nuts.
Wherever I visit, I look at the handmade textiles. I have seen beautiful Persian cloth and carpets. I look forward to seeing much more!
Outdoors I enjoy hiking in forests, running, beaches, picnics, and camping. I also rock climb and spelunk (cave exploration).
I love photography. Here you can see my photography.
